Latest Animal of the Day
Meet the honey possum. It is from the south-west of Western Australia. The male weighs about 8 - 10 g and the female 9 - 11 g (that is less than the weight of a 20 c piece). It lives on nectar and pollen.
Many thanks again to the ABC for introducing this little one to me :-). Click on the link for more information including the transcript of the interview with Professor Bradshaw.

Good lord isnt he beautiful. Our possom just landed on the verandah with a clunk.. and both dogs kept on snoring..lol
thanks for the link, I'll go read the interview...x
aawweee....how cute! our possum has a name, she is called Edna, but she's much bigger and clunks like Abbeys! I'll be sure to show karate_man the link to this one as well, he loves animals xo
Awwwww, how gorgeous. I've not heard of him before...Like the other girls, the only possums I am familiar with are those big noisy buggers who run over your roof at night and keep you awake and with their weird vocalisations. I love this little bloke :)
How sweet and tiny ... a little honey ;)
It is adorable. I had no idea there were possums that tiny.
Apparently he isn't really a "possum" as such. he is related to another beastie in South America but they are the last of their kinds!
I was amazed at their size too - I listened the interview and thought I surely must have mis-heard but no, the photo proves it :-)
