Is it really better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?
No. It is all very lovely to think that those lovely memories will keep you warm and your heart and eyelids fluttering as the years go by but I think that is crap ... I mean so terribly wrong.
You can spend the rest of your life repeating the last memories (which let's face it, the relationship didn't last so the last memories are never good - death, argument, betrayal, whatever) or pining for something that gets more unreal as the years pass.
Imagine you had the most perfect piece of food ever (chocolate, fruit, whatever works for you) - for the rest of your life while things might be great, you know that they aren't as good as they could be because you have tasted perfection.
If you only get one shot at love, and you can see the future and know it isn't going to last, then avoid the whole thing completely.
Lol
For this week, we are linking to Mae and JM. And the home of Love Q is at Short Sweet Love Poems.

I like your answer, it was very direct and well thought out. BTW, did you know you have a pop on your blog when it loads up?
It appears that when visitors are from North America come to some of our Aussie blogs there are popups. We are trying to fix the problem but as none of us can see them it is proving difficult. Stick with me ...
Good god woman you are a love cynic... Ive tasted mango, perfection, with the juices running down my chin..lol...I have a thing for mangos and I will keep tasting them till the day I die....
*substitue love 4 mango....x
Wow! That's a very straightforward and interesting answer to a difficult question. Getting hurt so that we can taste some sweetness in the beginning, just isn't for everyone. :)
Tammy the 3 of us are working on establishing where these pop ups are originating. We all have very different html's and the only thing in common we have is that we use the same internet provider. We think they may be providing some type of filter which is why Australians (except Anony)French & British dont get exposed to them on our sites.
BOCA RATON, Florida is responsible for most (SPAM, Viruses, Trojans, Phishing-attempts etc) & Im looking into that.It seems the only ones effected by these pop ups are Americans so Im trying to establish if there is something we can do from that end.
I'm unsure if those affected are using blockers (standard here) and if they are somehow getting past their blockers...
It is becoming so frustrating as we cant see them, we all hate them, and we cant find a code to remove them. We are trying hard as we value all who come to our sites....
Sorry MG for jumping in here but it is really driving me nuts.
Hey Abz, check your heart post - I have seen popup (using Naribe's computer) and I know the source :-)
As for the actual post, I proudly wear my badge that "love (as in monagamous, together forever) doesn't exist" and you are all welcome to joining the crowd that forms behind me with comments like "well you haven't really been in lvoe then".
That 'romantic' love and all the gushiness that coems with it comes and then usually goes - it is unralistic for it to be sustainable over the years. That's why they call it the honeymoon period lol
If you want to make a relationship last you need to move beyond that into a mutually respecting situation (best friends if you will) where you can be yourself and know that in amongst the headiness of passion the bins need to be emptied, he/she did "that thing" again and they know it frives you mad, and how is the money coming in going pay all the bills.
It is the ability to handle of all of that real stuff that makes the difference - not whether your partner buys you flowers or sweeps you off your feet (which is nice but can't be the foundation of a relationship).
And, once you get to that point, you realize that some friendships last and others are there for only a part of our lives. Did your partner grow and change or did you? It doesn't matter.
My two cents (am I still allowed to play?) lol
yeah, everyone has different point of view and you have a great one :)
Very good answer. Mine is up too and if you would like to read, it's here http://amidrin.blogspot.com/2008/05/love-q-4-to-have-loved-and-lost.html
Well, you have a different point of view. It's interesting to read the answers of all participants. Love it. Mine is up too.
I see the pop up when I visit your blog.
