Mending Moments

I didn't do my sewing tonight - I did some mending I promised I would do. The first was a pair of jeans that was ripped from the fly down past the crotch. A bit tricky but nothing I couldn't manage.

Then I started on the denim shorts that got 'a little torn' in a car rollover. Now I have been heard to say (confidently) "I can mend anything" but oh my - the things this big mouth gets me into - this had to be repaired in five separate stages!

The photo is the finished product - yes the owner was warned that there was no way that this was going to be an invisible mend - obviously it was all by hand because my sewing machine doesn't work in such confined spaces so that wasn't an option. And on top of doing over 1000 individual little stitches, I had to decide what the contrast colour for a teenage person should be! I have a heap of denim bits around here for just such mending jobs but none came close to matching so I had to do a contrast color. There is black writing down the side, to explain my final choice. I look at the photo and it all seems so easy and while it wasn't hard, this took nearly 3 hours and I am not a slow sewer. Sigh .....
