Just in case I vanish for a bit - my computer at home is giving me the stick. I am being very optimisitic and sticking with the "I will have it fixed today" but .... welll ... you know how these things go.
First port of call with comp problems is to arm yourself with a small paintbrush and screwdriver, take off the covers (after unplugging the power etc) and gently removing the dust that has accummulated - esp around the cpu and any empty memory card slots. If your comp problem is tied in with high humidity levels, dust is usually the cause, tho a failing bios battery will also cause similar, and is replaceable at less than $10 usually.

You must take antistatic precautions whenever working on the motherboard tho, but these are fairly simple
Sorry - dont unplug the power; switch it off at the power point - you need the earth connection to ensure the antistatic precautions!!!.
