World AIDS Day

There is nearly 31 million adults and 2.5 million children living with AIDS around the world. That is the population of Australia plus another 50%!

In 2007 another 2.7 million people became infected. A record high 2.1 million people died.

At the end of 2005, there were 15.2 million AIDS orphans.

Yes Africa and Asia bears the burden of this population but complacency in affluent countries (including Australia) has seen rises in HIV/AIDS numbers there too.

On today (December 1) especially, spare a thought for our fellow brothers and sisters.

The sheer numbers are astounding..when I worked at the AIDS council (early 90's) there was concerns that Asia would experience the next 'wave'...that wave has long passed

I don't think our youth, in our country....see it as a legitimate concern...the other is newly divorced/seperated people around 40 who dont see it as an issue for them...they are the children of an era that had the pill for contraception and condoms were a thing of the past...

From youth and this age group. I often hear, they can tell someone doesnt have HIV, as they look 'clean'...we've gone backwards as far as HIV education is concerned.
